What is Waffle Deluxe?

Waffle Deluxe is the larger version of the standard Waffle game, built on a 7x7 grid. Four seven-letter words run horizontally and four run vertically, intersecting at 16 shared tiles. Those 16 intersection tiles start green and locked, giving you a solid foundation to work from. The remaining active tiles are scrambled and need to be swapped into place one pair at a time.

The colour rules are the same as the standard game. Green means correct position. Yellow means correct word, wrong spot. Grey means that tile doesn't belong in the word it's currently sitting in. With eight words instead of five, there are more clues available at any given moment, but also more ways for a move to ripple into a word you weren't thinking about.

Tips for Waffle Deluxe

With 16 intersection tiles already green at the start, you have a lot of confirmed letters to work from immediately. Map out which word each green tile belongs to and use that to rule in or out the tiles sitting on its arms.

Seven-letter words are longer, which means yellow tiles have more possible positions to land in. Narrow it down by crossing the yellow candidates against what you already know about the intersecting vertical word, or vice versa. Combining clues from both directions cuts the options fast.

Work one word at a time when you can. It's tempting to try to solve everything simultaneously, but bouncing between all eight words usually leads to moving tiles back and forth without progress. Pick the word with the most confirmed letters and finish it before moving on.

Save your swap budget for the harder words. If a word already has five or six letters confirmed, it'll fall into place with one or two swaps. Spend more time and swaps on words where you have only the intersection letters and everything else is still open.
